Back-painted colour
Any colour, painted on the back so the face stays plain glass.
Lux Glass installs kitchen glass backsplashes for Oakville homeowners — colour-matched back-painted glass, low-iron glass for whites that stay white, and mirror for kitchens that need more light. Oakville is our home base, and every backsplash here is measured and templated by master glazier Bojan Stojic and installed by our own crew, with no subcontractors on the job.

If a designer or contractor is running your renovation, we work to their schedule and their finish selections. This page is the Oakville side of our kitchen glass backsplash service.
A glass backsplash is one or more large panels fixed to the wall between the countertop and the upper cabinets. With back-painted glass, the colour sits on the back face, so the surface you touch and wipe is smooth glass with no grout lines to stain. For white, cream and pale grey we recommend the same back-painted panel made in low-iron glass, because ordinary glass would tint those colours green. And where a kitchen is narrow or short on daylight, a mirror backsplash reflects the window light back into the room.
The kitchens we see change with the neighbourhood. In Old Oakville, the 1920s and 1930s heritage houses between Trafalgar Road and Sixteen Mile Creek often have walls that are slightly out of plumb, so we measure the wall as it actually stands rather than as a drawing says it should. Glen Abbey and West Oak Trails are mostly family homes built from the 1980s to the early 2000s, where a glass backsplash fits naturally into a mid-cycle kitchen update. North of Dundas, Joshua Creek and Iroquois Ridge have estate homes where finishes tend to be slab-grade, which is exactly where low-iron glass earns its place. We also work in Bronte, Kerr Village and the streets around downtown Oakville.
The countertop is the bottom edge of the backsplash, and no countertop sits perfectly level against a perfectly straight wall. If the glass were measured from the cabinet boxes or from a plan, every small difference would show as a gap along the counter. So the order on an Oakville kitchen job is simple: cabinets, countertops, electrical boxes in their final position, then our template. If you are replacing the counters, book the template for after the new tops are set, not before.
Back-painted glass gives you one calm, solid colour from end to end. It suits a kitchen where the counter has strong veining or the cabinets carry the design, and a mid-tone colour is forgiving between cleanings. Mirror does something different: it doubles the light from a window and makes a tight galley feel wider, but it also reflects everything in front of it, including the underside of the upper cabinets and whatever is sitting on the counter, and it shows water spots and fingerprints sooner. A useful test is to stand at the counter and decide whether you want to look at a colour or at a reflection of the room.

Explore →Every outlet and switch on the backsplash wall needs a cutout in the glass. Where a panel is tempered, its openings have to be made before tempering, because tempered glass cannot be cut afterwards. That is why the cutouts are located from the on-site template instead of being marked and cut during the install. Behind a range or cooktop we use tempered glass, and the clearances around the cooking surface come from the appliance and range hood installation instructions rather than a rule of thumb. Have the model numbers ready at the template visit.
Kitchen glass backsplash work starts from a $1,200 minimum job. Above that, the price depends on the length and height of the run, how many panels it needs, the number of outlet and switch cutouts, whether you choose low-iron glass or mirror, and how exact the colour match must be. After the site measure you get a written quote, so you know the number before anything is ordered.
Lux Glass has been in business since 2008 and was incorporated as Lux Glass Inc. in 2014. On a long run, often yes. Glass panels have a practical size limit for fabrication, handling and carrying through the house, so a long wall is split into two or more pieces. We plan each joint where the eye expects a break, such as an inside corner, the side of a window or a line that matches a cabinet edge, and we show you where it falls before the glass is ordered.
Yes. Back-painted glass can be matched to a paint colour you choose, and the best results come from deciding while looking at a cabinet door and the countertop together. Colour behind glass looks glossier than the same paint on wood. Matching the cabinets exactly gives a quiet, built-in look; a shade lighter or darker gives contrast.
Wipe it with warm water and a little mild dish soap, then dry it with a soft, lint-free cloth. A household glass cleaner removes streaks and fingerprints. Avoid scouring pads, steel wool and abrasive powders. There is no grout, so there is nothing to scrub out of joints.
Usually, yes. Out-of-plumb walls are common in older Oakville houses, which is why we template on site after the counters are in and work to the real wall. If a wall is too uneven for a clean result, we tell you at the measure what has to be corrected first.
For white, cream and very pale colours, yes. Ordinary clear glass has a slight green tint that shows through a light paint colour and along the edges. Low-iron glass removes most of that tint, so a white backsplash reads white next to white cabinets or a pale stone counter. With darker colours the difference is much smaller.
Yes. Kitchen glass backsplash work starts from a $1,200 minimum job, so a short section is quoted at that minimum. Larger runs are priced from the site measure and confirmed in a written quote.
