Glass Installation in The Beaches — Lux Glass

The Beaches runs along the Queen St E corridor down to Lake Ontario, and it is one of the few Toronto neighbourhoods where the housing stock changes block by block — century semis and detached homes a few streets up, lakefront infills and rebuilds closer to the boardwalk, plus a strip of mid-rise condo growth around Woodbine. Glass work here is almost always a puzzle of small footprints, awkward stair geometry and, near the lake, wind that drives every spec on an exterior guard.

Frameless shower enclosures in The Beaches

The classic Beaches house has a bathroom carved out of what used to be a back bedroom, with a sloped ceiling and a window in the wrong place. We measure tight, often laying out a notched panel that follows the slope, and we will run a single hinged panel rather than a sliding door because the floor space simply will not accept a track. 3/8″ is our default; 1/2″ only when the panel is unusually tall or wide.

In the newer lakefront builds the brief flips. The bathroom is huge, the ceiling is high, and the homeowner wants a single sheet of glass framing a free-standing tub against a window with a lake view. We will pre-fit the channel, template after the tile, and cut to the actual opening.

Glass railings in The Beaches

Two railing jobs come up over and over in this neighbourhood. The first is an interior stair retrofit in a century home — a steep, narrow run where a wood guard is making the stairwell feel even tighter, and a glass infill panel between the existing newels opens it up without changing the footprint.

The second is a rear or lake-facing deck guard. Wind loading off the lake is not theoretical — a guard a block from the boardwalk takes meaningful pressure in a winter storm. We spec laminated tempered glass, top-mounted in a base shoe set into the deck frame, and we keep panel heights and gap widths within Ontario guard requirements.

Custom mirrors and partitions in The Beaches

Mirror work in The Beaches leans toward small, oddly proportioned pieces — a mirror that has to clear a sloped ceiling, a niche mirror inside a tiled recess, or a vanity backsplash mirror that runs wall to wall in a 5-foot bathroom. We cut to template, polish or bevel as required, and install with concealed clips.

Why a recent install in The Beaches matters

A recent install in The Beaches reinforced how little tolerance these older bathrooms have for surprises. The opening was three different widths at three different heights, the ceiling fell away by almost half an inch over six feet, and the only way to get a clean install was to template the panel after the tile and millwork were finished.
