Most frameless shower enclosures we install across Toronto and the GTA land between $1,800 and $4,500 installed. The spread is wide because “frameless shower” can mean a single fixed panel beside a tub, or a five-piece corner enclosure with a header bar, notched glass, and custom hardware. The big drivers are glass thickness, panel count, hardware finish, and whether the walls and curb are square. Below is how those pieces actually add up in our experience, with honest ranges instead of a per-square-foot number that doesn’t tell the truth.
What’s a realistic starting price for a basic frameless shower?
A single fixed glass panel beside a tub — sometimes called a shower screen — typically starts around $1,200 installed in 3/8″ tempered. A simple frameless inline panel-plus-pivot-door setup for a standard alcove starts in the $2,200–$2,800 range. We’ve done dozens of these in Toronto condos and they tend to come in cleanly because the openings are predictable.
Why does the price climb to $4,000 or more?
Three reasons usually: thicker glass (going from 3/8″ to 1/2″), more panels (a 90-degree return, a notched return around a bench, or a full corner enclosure), and premium hardware (matte black, brushed gold, or low-iron Starphire glass). A neo-angle corner enclosure with 1/2″ glass and brass-finish hinges will sit comfortably in the $3,800–$5,500 range.
Does Toronto cost more than the rest of the GTA?
Slightly, but not as much as people expect. Condo work downtown takes longer because of building access, elevator booking, and protection requirements, so we factor that in. A house in Mississauga or Oakville with easy driveway access usually prices a few hundred dollars under the equivalent downtown condo job.
What’s included in the install price?
For us: site measure, tempered glass cut to spec, all hardware (hinges, clamps, header bar if needed), silicone, install labour, and disposal of the old enclosure if there is one. We do not subcontract the glass cutting — it’s done locally in our shop, which keeps lead time around 7–10 business days.
What’s NOT included?
Tile repair behind a removed enclosure, plumbing changes, niche framing, waterproofing fixes, or moving a glass wall after a drain has been roughed in the wrong spot. We flag these on the consult so there are no surprises.
Does 1/2″ glass really cost that much more than 3/8″?
Yes — usually 25–35% more for the glass itself, plus heavier-duty hinges that are rated for it. On a small panel the upcharge might be $300–$500. On a large corner enclosure it can be $900–$1,400. Whether it’s worth it depends on the size of the panels and the look you want, not on safety. Both thicknesses are tempered and code-compliant.
How do I get a real number instead of a range?
We come out, measure, look at how square the walls are, talk through hardware and glass choices, and email a fixed quote within a day or two. The consult is free across the GTA and there’s no pressure — most of our work comes from referrals so a “no” today doesn’t bother us.
