Lux Glass installs frameless glass pool fences for Burlington homes, from lake-facing yards in Roseland and Aldershot to family pools in Headon Forest and Millcroft and larger lots against the escarpment in Tyandaga. We are based in Oakville, just east along the QEW, and owner Bojan Stojic measures and installs each fence himself. Pool fences sit alongside our glass railing work for decks, stairs and balconies.

Exposure is the Burlington question
Burlington is a wind city for the glass trade. Yards south of the QEW between Brant Street and Walkers Line catch the full sweep off Lake Ontario, and properties on the upper Aldershot and Tyandaga ridge sit close to the escarpment edge. On almost every exterior quote here, the conversation turns to exposure and run length. For a pool fence that conversation happens at the free site measure, where we look at how open the yard is, how long the run is, and what the spigots will be anchored into. If you want the fence engineered for your exposure, engineer-stamped drawings are available on request for an additional fee.
Lake, suburb and escarpment
Roseland and the lake side of Aldershot. Roseland, south of the QEW between Guelph Line and Walkers Line, has deep lots, mature canopy and rear elevations with direct lake-wind exposure. Many of its mid-century brick homes have been opened up with glass-walled rear additions, and a glass pool fence carries that look out into the yard.
Headon Forest and Millcroft. The 1980s neighbourhood east of Walkers Line and the planned 1990s subdivision around the Millcroft golf course make up Burlington’s family-renovation belt, where builder-era features are being upgraded one project at a time.
Tyandaga and upper Aldershot. Northwest Burlington, up against the escarpment, has larger lots, exposed rear elevations and longer exterior runs. In Tyandaga the lots get larger and the views get bigger, which is exactly where a solid fence would be a loss.
Pool fence or deck guard?
Where a pool sits beside a raised deck, two different sets of rules can meet in one yard. The pool enclosure falls under the City of Burlington’s pool enclosure by-law. A deck edge that needs a guard falls under the Ontario Building Code, Division B, Subsection 9.8.8, which governs guards, not pool enclosures. We work out which part of the run is the enclosure and which part is a guard at the site measure, so the quote and the drawings describe the real yard.
Permit first, glass second
The key requirements of the City of Burlington Municipal Pool By-law 74-2005:
- A permit approving the fences and gates before construction, and no water in the pool until they are installed and approved.
- Solid-panel fencing at least 1.2 m high (2.0 m maximum); metal fencing at least 1.5 m.
- No more than 100 mm between the bottom of the fence or gate and finished grade.
- Gates are self-closing and self-latching, with the latching hardware at the top and on the inside of the gate, and are kept closed and locked when the pool is unsupervised.
- The fence stands at least 1.2 m from the inside edge of the pool.

A pool enclosure permit is normally required from the City of Burlington before the fence is built, and the enclosure has to meet the City’s pool enclosure by-law. We build to the approved drawings, and we would rather wait for the approval than fabricate glass that might have to be remade. Our article on glass pool fence safety codes in Oakville and Burlington lists the questions to ask.
New builds and rebuilt yards
On a Tyandaga or Millcroft new build, or a full rear-yard rebuild in Roseland, we prefer to be involved before the deck framing is closed in. A structural walk at that stage lets the builder plan solid anchoring where the spigots will go, which is far easier than adding it later. A stone or concrete pool surround follows the same logic: talk to us while the surround is being designed, and we template once it is finished.
Hardware that lives beside the pool
Pool water carries chlorine, or salt on a salt system, and every splash leaves some of it on the hardware. That is why our spigots for pools and exteriors are Duplex 2205 marine-grade stainless. The panels are 12mm tempered safety glass made to CAN/CGSB-12.1, and the gate is glass on self-closing, self-latching hardware. The fence is frameless, so from the house you see the pool and the yard rather than a frame.
How we price a Burlington pool fence
Pricing for a frameless glass pool fence starts from $240 per linear foot. Length, corners, level changes, the gate, the deck or stone the spigots are anchored into, and any engineering you request all move the cost from there. The final price is quoted in writing after a free on-site measure, itemized line by line.
Burlington pool fence FAQs
Do I need a permit for a pool fence in Burlington?
A pool enclosure permit is normally required from the City of Burlington, and the fence has to meet the City’s pool enclosure by-law. Confirm the requirements with the City for your address. We build to the approved drawings.
Is the railing on our raised deck part of the pool fence?
Not automatically. A deck edge guard is covered by the Ontario Building Code, Division B, Subsection 9.8.8, while the pool enclosure is covered by the City’s by-law. We work out which is which at the site measure.
We are on a lake-facing lot in Roseland. What do you check?
Exposure, run length and the surface the spigots are anchored into. We look at those on every lake-side Burlington job, and engineer-stamped drawings are available on request for an additional fee if you want the run engineered.
When should our builder bring you in on a new build?
Before the deck framing is closed in. A structural walk at that stage lets the builder plan solid anchoring where the spigots will go.
Are the spigots suitable for a salt-water pool?
We use Duplex 2205 marine-grade stainless spigots for pools and exteriors because of chlorine and salt exposure.
Are you insured?
Yes. Lux Glass is WSIB insured and carries Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance. Every installation also carries our 5-year warranty on labour and 5-year warranty on hardware.
Do you work in Aldershot, Headon Forest and Millcroft?
Yes. We work across Burlington, from Aldershot and the waterfront to Headon Forest, Millcroft, Roseland and Tyandaga.
