Lux Glass installs full-wall gym mirrors for Oakville homeowners, home-gym builders and fitness studio owners, from heritage basements in Old Oakville to the finished lower levels of Glen Abbey and Joshua Creek. We are based in Oakville, so the site measure, the install and any follow-up happen close to home. Each wall is built from 6 mm mirror with safety backing, sized to the room and to the stair it has to come down. This page is the local side of our guide to mirror walls for home gyms and studios.

What goes into an Oakville gym mirror wall
A gym mirror is a working surface, not decoration. It has to stay flat across a long run, show your form from where you actually train, and survive the odd dropped plate. Our standard build covers all three:
- 6 mm mirror. A 4 mm sheet flexes across a long span and reads wavy as soon as someone walks past.
- Safety backing. A vinyl film bonded across the full back of each panel, so a cracked panel stays on the film instead of landing on the floor in shards.
- Butted seams. Panels meet edge to edge with both meeting edges flat polished, leaving a hairline between them.
- Polished exposed edges. The ends of the run, the top edge and any return a hand can reach are ground and polished smooth.
- Copper-free mirror for damp rooms. A basement gym or a room beside a bathroom sees humidity and sweat, and copper-free backing holds up better at the edges.
Oakville basements, old and new
Many Oakville gym mirrors go into basements, and the house shapes the job more than the wall does. Old Oakville has many homes from the 1920s and 1930s, where ceilings are often lower, walls are less likely to be flat and the stair down is usually the tightest point on the route. Glen Abbey, from the 1980s, and West Oak Trails, from the late 1990s and early 2000s, sit at the family-renovation core of the city. Home-gym mirror walls are a common request in the estate homes of Glen Abbey and Joshua Creek. We also work in Bronte, College Park, Iroquois Ridge, Kerr Village and River Oaks.
Getting large panels down an Oakville stair
A 4 by 6 foot panel of 6 mm mirror weighs around 75 pounds, and a 5 by 8 is closer to 125. Neither one bends around a landing. In an Oakville basement the stair turn and the doorways usually decide the panel size, not the length of the wall. At the site measure we look at the route as carefully as the wall, then lay out the panels so each one fits through and the seams fall in sensible places, such as beside a rack upright rather than in the middle of your squat view.
How we fix the mirror to the wall
Mirror goes over sound drywall, but never on adhesive alone. A J channel along the bottom edge carries the dead weight, and mirror mastic holds the face flat to the wall. The type of mastic matters: ordinary construction adhesive carries solvents that work through the paint on the back of the mirror and attack the silver, which shows up a year or two later as black edges and creeping streaks. Mirror mastic is made solvent free for that reason.
Before the first panel goes up we check the run for flatness. A 6 mm panel is stiff, but it still copies whatever it is bedded onto, so a bowed stud or a proud drywall joint becomes a visible waver. Where the check finds one, we fur or pack the wall first.
Height, outlets and the rest of the room
In a home gym the mirror usually starts 16 to 20 inches off the floor. That clears the baseboard and most equipment, keeps the bottom edge away from dropped weights, and still shows your feet at the bottom of a squat. A yoga or Pilates room goes lower, because the work happens close to the floor. We template the wall on site and cut clean openings for outlets and switches, so the mirror sits flush around them.
What a gym mirror wall costs in Oakville
Gym mirrors start from $28/sqft. The final price follows the total area, the number of panels the access route forces, outlet cutouts, edge work, copper-free or low-iron glass, and any wall preparation the flatness check turns up. After the site measure you receive a written, itemized quote.
Studios and commercial gyms in Oakville
Studio and gym owners on Kerr Street, Lakeshore West or in the Winston Park business area usually need paperwork before a landlord lets work start. Lux Glass is WSIB insured and carries $5,000,000 Commercial General Liability, and we provide the documents on request. Installation can be planned around classes, including evenings and weekends.
Measured and installed by the owner
Lux Glass is owner-operated. Master glazier Bojan Stojic measures and installs the work himself, with no subcontractors, and brings 18 years of experience: in business since 2008 and incorporated as Lux Glass Inc. in 2014. Every install carries our 5-year warranty on labour and 5-year warranty on hardware.
Oakville gym mirror FAQs
Is gym mirror glass tempered?
No. Mirror stays annealed, because tempering leaves a roll distortion that shows as a wavy reflection once the glass is silvered. Safety comes from the backing film bonded across the back of each panel instead. Lux Glass puts safety backing on every gym mirror it installs in Oakville.
Will a mirror wall fit down the narrow stair in an older Oakville house?
Yes, as long as the panels are sized for the route. We measure the stair, the landing and every doorway at the site visit and plan the layout around them. A long wall simply gets more panels, butted together so only a hairline shows between them.
Should we mirror the whole wall or just the area beside the rack?
That depends on how you train. A full wall suits a room where you move between stations, because the reflection follows you. A single run beside the rack can be enough when you mostly check form in one spot. We can lay out both options at the site measure.
What should I send before the site visit?
Send the wall width and height, a short note on how the room is used and a photo of the route down to the gym. That lets us talk through panel sizes, thickness, edges, backing and the fixing method before we come out to measure.
Are peel-and-stick mirror tiles good enough for a home gym?
Not for checking form. Those tiles are usually thin acrylic that flexes over any wall that is not dead flat, and the seams between small squares chop the reflection into a grid.
Can we lean a large mirror against the wall instead?
We do not recommend it in a gym. A 75-pound sheet standing on the floor can tip if a barbell or a skipping rope catches it, which is why Lux Glass fixes gym panels to the wall.
What warranty comes with an Oakville gym mirror?
Every install carries our 5-year warranty on labour and 5-year warranty on hardware. Bojan Stojic installs the work himself, so the person who measured your wall is the person you call if anything needs attention.
