Aluminum-framed retail storefront glass panels by Lux Glass, storefront glass in Milton

Where Milton’s commercial glass work is

Milton is the highest-growth city in our service area, and most of what we install here is residential. Commercial work is lighter than in Oakville or Burlington, but it comes in steadily: storefronts and vestibules along Main Street East and Mountain View Road, and office partitions in the Steeles Avenue business parks. In Old Milton, the heritage core west of Ontario Street around Mill Street and Main, the buildings are older, so we measure every opening as it stands rather than trusting an old drawing.

Replacing a cracked or broken storefront panel

A broken pane is the most common reason a business owner calls a glazier for the first time. The replacement follows a simple order:

  1. Securing the opening. If glass has fallen out, the opening needs to be boarded and the broken glass cleared before anything else. Tell us when you call whether that has been done.
  2. Site measure. We measure the opening, identify the existing glass type and thickness, and check the frame and glazing stops for damage.
  3. Written quote. You get the replacement price in writing, with any upgrade, such as laminated in place of tempered, listed as a separate option.
  4. Template, fabrication and installation. The panel is templated, then cut and tempered or laminated to size, and Bojan installs it in the existing frame.

Tempered glass cannot be cut once it has been tempered, so every replacement panel is made to measure. That is why a replacement is never quoted until the opening has been measured.

New frontages, entrance doors and vestibules

For a tenant fit-out or a full frontage replacement, we supply and install:

  • aluminum-framed storefront glazing, including flush-glazed systems with thermally broken framing;
  • glass entrance doors with commercial closers, locks and pulls;
  • vestibules that add a second set of doors inside the entrance to hold heat in through the winter;
  • tempered, laminated and insulated glass, chosen panel by panel.

Where the storefront is one trade in a wider fit-out, we time the templating so the glass is measured after the openings are final, and installed at the point in the build where it will not hold up other trades.

Tempered, laminated or insulated

Each glass type does a different job. Tempered safety glass to CAN/CGSB-12.1 is the baseline: it is strong, and if it breaks it falls into small blunt pieces. Laminated glass holds together on its interlayer when it is struck, so a cracked panel stays in the frame and the store stays closed to the street. That makes it the better choice for display windows facing the sidewalk. Insulated units pair two panes for better thermal performance on a large frontage, and the options can be combined, for example with a laminated outer pane. We explain them at the site measure and price them separately, so the decision stays yours.

Signage, decals and the glass behind them

Many storefronts carry the business name, hours and logo on the glass. That vinyl goes on after installation, so it helps to plan it before the panels are laid out. We place frame lines and door rails so they do not split the sign area, and we tell your sign company which panels are tempered and which are laminated. Clear glass doors and full-height panels also need a manifestation band or graphic at eye level so customers see the glass. It can be plain frosting or part of your branding.

Paperwork your landlord will ask for

Before a landlord or property manager lets a contractor work on the building shell, they usually want proof of insurance. Lux Glass is WSIB insured and carries $5,000,000 Commercial General Liability (CGL) coverage, and we provide the certificates before the job starts. If the landlord needs drawings, engineer-stamped drawings are available upon request for an additional fee. Check with the landlord and the Town of Milton about any approvals a change of frontage needs before the glass is ordered.

Owner-operated, with 18 years in the trade

Lux Glass has 18 years of experience: in business since 2008 and incorporated as Lux Glass Inc. in 2014. Bojan Stojic measures the opening, prepares the quote and installs the glass himself, with no subcontractors. For a business owner, that means one person to talk to about access, timing and the details of the frontage. Every installation carries a 5-year warranty on labour and 5-year warranty on hardware.

Milton storefront FAQs

Should we call you, or should our landlord?

It depends on the lease. In many leases the storefront frame and glass belong to the building, so the landlord or property manager approves and sometimes pays for the work. Check your lease first. We can quote either party and send the insurance certificates to whoever needs them.

Can you match the frame of the storefronts on either side?

We look at the existing framing colour and profile at the site measure and quote a system that suits it. If the landlord has a standard for the building, send it with the quote request.

Is insulated glass worth it for a storefront?

On a large frontage, insulated units reduce heat loss and condensation compared with single panes. On a small replacement panel in an existing single-glazed frame, matching what is there is often the practical choice. We look at the frame before recommending either.

Can you install the glass outside our opening hours?

Yes. Evening and weekend installation can be arranged for businesses that cannot close during the day. We agree the time before fabrication, so the panels arrive for the booked install.

Do you supply the closer and lock with a new entrance door?

Yes. A new glass entrance door is quoted with its closer, lock and pulls, so the hardware is matched to the door and the frame. If your landlord or security company specifies the lock, we work to that specification.

Does a broken pane have to be replaced with the same type of glass?

Not always. A tempered pane can be replaced with laminated if you want the extra security, as long as the frame can take the thickness. We check the glazing pocket at the site measure before offering the option.

Can you give us a price over the phone?

No. Storefront glass is quoted in writing after a site measure, because the price depends on the opening, the glass, the frame and the hardware. Photos help us plan the visit, but the quote comes after we have measured.
