Hamilton is a new corridor for LuxGlass, and we want to be straight about that. We are based in Oakville, with 800+ installs across the GTA since 2014, and we are actively building our Hamilton calendar. The work itself — frameless showers, glass railings, custom mirrors, partitions — is the same craft we have been doing for a decade. What’s new is the route to Westdale and the conversations about escarpment wind exposure. If you are in Hamilton and you want owner-operator install with a written 5-year workmanship warranty, we would be glad to take the consultation. Every install carries our 5-year workmanship warranty regardless of city.
Does LuxGlass serve Hamilton?
Yes. We travel to Hamilton from Oakville for free in-home consultations across the city — Westdale, Dundas, Ancaster, Durand, and Stoney Creek are the neighbourhoods we are quoting most actively. We install frameless shower enclosures, glass railings, custom mirrors, and office partitions, with the same owner-operator model and written warranty we use everywhere else in the GTA.
Hamilton at a glance — glass projects we install here
Hamilton’s geography is unlike anywhere else we work. The Escarpment splits the city into Upper City and Lower City, and that split matters more than a postal code for glass briefs. West-end neighbourhoods — Westdale and Dundas under the brow of the escarpment, Ancaster on top — bring escarpment wind exposure and longer interior stair runs in two-storey heritage and post-war stock. The Lower City core around Durand carries Victorian housing with smaller original bathrooms and tighter renovation envelopes. Stoney Creek to the east mixes suburban subdivision builds with lakefront properties where Lake Ontario exposure changes the railing conversation.
The mix of projects scales with that geography. Frameless shower enclosures are typically 8 mm or 10 mm tempered for retrofit primary baths in Westdale and Durand, scaling up to 12 mm tempered for the longer fixed returns we expect in Ancaster’s larger ensuites. Glass railings on exterior decks in Stoney Creek lakefront properties need a wind-load conversation that doesn’t come up on an inland Ancaster deck — depending on exposure, we move from 10 mm tempered to 12 mm or 13.5 mm laminated tempered with sized base-shoe embedment. Interior stair runs across the city follow standard OBC 9.8.8 specs.
Hardware finishes in Hamilton trend toward brushed nickel and brushed brass in heritage Durand and Westdale renovations, with matte black gaining ground in newer Stoney Creek and Ancaster builds. Starphire low-iron glass is an upgrade we recommend where slab-grade tile or stone justifies it — typical in the larger Ancaster primary baths.
Neighbourhoods we serve in Hamilton
West Hamilton — Westdale, Dundas, Ancaster
- Westdale — the residential pocket west of downtown adjacent to McMaster University. Mid-century brick and post-war infill, mid-cycle ensuite upgrades and stair-railing retrofits dominate here.
- Dundas — the heritage village under the escarpment brow west of Hamilton proper. Older housing stock with smaller original bathrooms; careful frameless retrofits that respect the existing trim.
- Ancaster — established suburb on top of the escarpment with larger family homes and estate pockets. Longer fixed returns, taller panels for 2.4-metre ceilings, larger stair-railing runs.
Lower City — Durand
- Durand — the Victorian-heritage core south of the downtown grid. Smaller bathrooms in original-footprint houses; we coordinate closely with tile and trim contractors before template day on heritage work.
East Hamilton — Stoney Creek
- Stoney Creek — east end mix of suburban subdivisions and lakefront properties along Lake Ontario. Wind-load engineering matters on lake-exposed rear decks; inland subdivision work follows standard interior + exterior specs.

Hamilton FAQs
How does escarpment wind exposure affect glass railing spec in west Hamilton?
Wind load is a function of basic wind speed for the geographic region (Hamilton sits in a defined OBC exposure zone), exposure category (sheltered suburban vs open suburban vs open coastal/lakeshore), and the building’s height above grade. A deck on top of the escarpment in Ancaster sees a different wind load than the same deck tucked into a Westdale sheltered backyard. We run the calc per the Ontario Building Code on every exterior railing quote and move from 10 mm tempered to 12 mm or 13.5 mm laminated tempered as the exposure category and run length require. The base-shoe embedment depth follows the same logic.
Do you handle lakefront railing exposure in Stoney Creek?
Yes. Lake Ontario exposure on Stoney Creek lakefront properties brings the same wind-load conversation we have on Bronte and Burlington lakefront decks — typically a step up in glass spec and base-shoe embedment, sometimes with engineered drawings if the run is long or the exposure is severe. We will run the calc through an engineer on the longer spans and supply the drawings if your municipality requires them.
Can you coordinate with the tile contractor on a Durand heritage renovation?
Yes. On heritage Durand work we usually insist on it. We will not template the shower until the tile setter has confirmed the curb is level, the linear drain has correct slope, and the niche returns are finished. Heritage Victorian homes carry slightly out-of-plumb walls more often than newer builds — we measure to the actual condition rather than the drawing, which is why coordinating before template day matters.
How long does a frameless shower install take in Hamilton?
The install itself is a single afternoon for a typical two- or three-piece enclosure once the glass is fabricated. The full cycle from first site visit to install is usually three to four weeks — initial template after tile is set and linear drain is verified, glass cut and tempered, then final install. Larger Ancaster estate enclosures with notched panels around benches or niches can run four to five weeks because the template is more detailed.
Do you travel to Hamilton from Oakville?
Yes. Hamilton is on our regular service route from our Oakville base, roughly 35 minutes via the QEW. Consultations are free in-home anywhere in the city — Westdale through Stoney Creek — and there is no travel charge baked into our quotes.
Do you supply written quotes?
Yes. After a free in-home consultation we provide a written, itemized quote within 48 hours. The quote shows glass type and thickness, hardware finish, edge work, install scope, and any Starphire low-iron upgrade as a separate line. No verbal pricing, no fine-print extras.
What does your 5-year workmanship warranty cover on Hamilton installs?
It covers install workmanship, seal-line integrity, hardware mounting, channel and standoff alignment, and panel plumb and level for five years from the install date. It is written, signed at handover, and transferable to new owners if you sell the home. Full terms at /5-year-workmanship-warranty/.
Building out our Hamilton calendar
We are honest about being newer to this corridor. Most of our 800+ install history sits in Oakville, Burlington, and Toronto, and we are extending coverage westward by quoting Hamilton actively and asking for the consultation rather than presuming an existing reputation here. If you are in Westdale, Dundas, Ancaster, Durand, or Stoney Creek and you are weighing frameless showers, glass railings, custom mirrors, or partitions, please call — we will be on-site quickly and the quote will reflect the same craft and warranty we offer everywhere else.
