1. Height and Gap Requirements (The Halton Standards)
Both the Town of Oakville (Bylaw 2018-019) and the City of Burlington (Bylaw 37-2009) mandate that any pool enclosure must meet precise structural metrics to prevent unsupervised children from accessing the pool area:
- Minimum Height: The glass panels must stand at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) high, measured from the finished ground or deck surface on the outside of the enclosure.
- Ground Clearance: The gap between the bottom of the glass panels and the ground or deck surface must not exceed 100 mm (4 inches).
- Panel Spacing: The vertical gaps between individual glass panels, or between a panel and a post, must not exceed 100 mm (4 inches) to prevent a child from squeezing through.
